the influence of visual function impairment on quality of life

to identify and describe factors relating to quality of life (qol) for subjects with low vision and blindness in iran's sistan-baluchestan province, this research designed. this cross sectional study was done on subjects with vision disability who randomly selected and covered by the zahedan welfare organization, zahedan, iran. evaluations were made for the following factors related to visual impairment including visual field (vf), visual acuity (va) and stereopsis. data were collected using two questionnaires, demographic and influence of vision impairment (ivi). one handered twenty one patients were enrolled for participation in the study. t-test analysis showed the mean score of qol for women (79.83, sd: 23.30) was significantly lower than that for men (105.66, sd: 22.56) (p<0.001). results of the mann-whitney u test showed that mean qol scores, significantly, were lower in participants without stereopsis concerning social (p=0.003) and leisure (p=0.009) and those participants with tunnel vision scored lower in terms of mobility and self-care (p<0.001) than did others. the results of this study showed that providing education, upgrading education level and employment status, participation, and social programs for blind and low vision people, especially in women, is necessary.
